Compare Care

Making decisions about your care or the care of a loved one can be a challenge. That is why Medicare has compiled data about the quality of hospitals, home health agencies and nursing homes that you can use to compare care. Follow the links below to get started:

Keep in mind, however, that comparative quality data is one of many resources that are available when you are trying to choose a healthcare provider. Others include recommendations from health professionals like your doctor. You also should ask family and friends about their experiences with the providers you are considering.

Be aware that while consumer healthcare websites can provide helpful customer service ratings, they are less qualified to comment on health quality and provider credentials than the following:

American Board of Medical Specialties - Information about whether a doctor is board-certified in the specialty he or she practices

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations - Accreditation reports for hospitals, surgery centers, nursing homes, hospices, home care agencies, and rehabilitation centers

Virginia Board of Medicine - Physician profiles, including license status and malpractice history

Virginia Health Information - Long-term care and hospital cost information, plus data about the quality of cardiac care at Virginia hospitals
